What is Reiki?

Reiki is a hands on healing art which was developed in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui in Japan. The word Reiki derives from two Japanese words, Rei and Ki meaning a Universal Life Force of Energy. There are many ways that Reiki is practiced. The art is passed from Master to student.
Reiki is a widely known type of energy healing which involves the direct application of Chi for the purpose of strengthening one's energy system, also known as aura.
Chi is the term used for the underlying force that the Universe is made of and is used by Chinese mystics and martial artist. Mystics from many cultures relate to the physical universe being made of an underlying form of something. Modern physics research is now understanding that our Universe is made of energy subjected to and affected by thought.
The mystics also say that this underlying form is affected by thought claiming that we create our own reality from thinking and the thoughts we have and share between us.
If we stop and reflect for a moment, we can imagine the implications of the universe which is around us, made from energy which can be manipulated by our thoughts.
This is the implication of Quantum Physics and ancient Metaphysics. Some say that this may make illness and miraculous cures, especially those with no apparent cause, easier to explain. A good example of this is prayer. Research has shown that prayer improves the health of those who are prayed for. Intent prayer is thought to send thoughts such as `I wish this to happen.' Reiki followers believe that if the world is energy which is subject to the power of though the prayers must work.
It is very easy to learn Reiki and it is very simple to use. All can benefit from it. Reiki is one of many healing forms that used natural forces given by ancient Chinese mystics. Some healing forms which use Chi energy are Chi Gong, Pranic Healing, Chelation and Polarity Balancing. Apparently all use the same energies but differ in their techniques of application and the quality of energy known as vibration.
Reiki, meaning Universal Life Force Energy refers to the energy itself rather than the specific techniques which are taught by Reiki Masters. The proper name for this technique is the Usui System of Natural Healing, names after the founder, Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki is the common name used today.
Reiki consists of a practitioner placing his or her hands upon the person wishing to be healed with the intent for the healing to occur rather than the energy to begin flowing. Reiki is said to be smart since the energy knows where to go and what to do when it gets there or it is being directed by a higher intelligence. Apparently the energy is able to manage its own flow to and within those receiving it by drawing through the healer the exact amount the recipient needs. This is supposed to happen without the healing directly consciously intervening. The healer should get out of the way, although keep the healing space open whilst listening and watching for signs of what to do next.

Whole Body Reiki

Reiki is a healing art that originated in Japan in the early 1900's. It is a healing treatment that is passed down from Master to student - and it is said that the student
receives "attunement" from the Reiki Master.

Reiki itself can be thought of as a non-physical, non-invasive healing treatment that consists of a "life force energy" that is said to be guided by the
Higher Intelligence. That said, it is important to bear in mind that Reiki is not a religion or way of life, and it has no dogma attached to it.
It doesn't require that you have any particular beliefs in order to receive the healing treatment either.

Generally, Reiki healing is given by a qualified Reiki practitioner who uses his/her hands to channel energy to the person in need of the treatment. Usually
only the affected part is treated. There is another type of Reiki treatment, known as "whole body Reiki" and this is used to treat the entire body as a whole.
More specifically, it helps the body to achieve a state of relaxation by eliminating blockages in the system which would disrupt the flow of energy throughout.

If whole body Reiki is administered over a long period of time, the end result is a marked improvement in the overall condition and health of the body.
A lot of this is due to the energy channels being opened up sufficiently, without any blockages or obstacles hindering the energy flow, and so the body is
much better equipped to deal with toxic build up and stress.
This has a further beneficial effect in that body processes such as the immune system are further strengthened and improved to deal with toxins more effectively
and efficiently.

Sometimes, a patient may be receiving the usual conventional medical treatment for an ailment and in cases like these, Reiki can also be used effectively to help
the recovery process. It does this by recharging the body with additional energy so that the body is better able to recover from illness.
Reiki has been known to provide beneficial results in relieving side effects which may arise as the result of some medical treatments, particularly in cases
of surgery and chemotherapy treatments. Once again, Reiki provides extra life energy which is just what the body needs, especially after such draining and demanding
treatments such as chemotherapy sessions. A good analogy of what Reiki does for the body is that it is almost like charging one's personal battery!
If Reiki healing can be given on a regular basis, this will further enhance and promote a person's natural healing process such that they are restored to good
health a lot sooner. A regular course of Reiki will increase the body's natural built-in defenses, promoting a more positive outlook on life and providing a greater
ability to handle stressful situations and challenges.

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing art and the word "reiki" means "universal life energy" in Japanese.

This form of alternative medicine works on the basis that we all have Reiki energy or are composed of Reiki - which is some sort of life force energy.

The person or Reiki practitioner who uses this form of natural healing is more susceptible to the energy through the laying on of his hands.

Students practicing Reiki believe that the Reiki energy opens a channel for cosmic and universal energy which it flows down which is usually through the top of the head, through the body and out through the hands. This amplifies the body's vibratory frequency rate and sets off a 21 day cleansing process.

The word Reiki can be split into two. "Rei" means spiritually guided and "ki" means life-force which is similar to the chinese word chi.

It is said of Reiki that it helps us avoid harmful behaviour patterns - such as smoking, drinking too
much and overeating. In doing so, we then no longer make illnesses happen to us or attract weird
accidents. Over time then Reiki helps us move towards the path of spiritual maturity.

Also tests in the United States involving Reiki on people suffering from terminal cancer showed that over half the group were still alive after two and a half years later.

Healers say they don't "do" the healing but that the individual being treated is the one who decides, on a subconscious level, how much healing energy he or she wishes to take and use. Tests carried out on injured rats showed that rats treated with Reiki energy recovered much sooner that rats that were not treated at all.

So, as far as "reiki" goes - there is no "doing". Instead, reiki is always drawn through a channel.
Further, it is not possible to give too much "Reiki" as the channel will simply take what is needed and that is all.
It is not possible to "give too much reiki".

In fact research studies carried out in Stanford, show that the energy appears to enter the body from the top of the head (which is the crown chakra). It then passes down through the body, through the heart muscle, to the Reiki practitioner's hands and from his/her hands is then passes over to the patient being treated. Some of the energy passing through the Reiki practitioner's body is actually absorbed by him and because of this, Reiki practitioners are never left drained after giving a treatment as they too are treated whilst they give a treatment.

That said, self treatment is one of the greatest benefits of Reiki. It provides tremendous benefits in that it aids stress release and helps one to relax.

People who opt for Reiki treatment need not necessarily believe in the treatment. All that is required is a sincere wish to try it and to be open to what it may bring.
